Awesome snowflake picture

Andrew Norton

Sugar Plum Snowflake, originally uploaded by CaptPiper.

Seeing as how we haven't had much in the way of frozen precipitation this winter I thought it would be a good time to post this excellent snowflake picture. The detail of the snowflake that was picked up by the camera is simply incredible.

Will we ever see a significant snowfall this winter? The most snow we have had in southwest Michigan was a couple of inches back in October! My two-year-old is extremely anxious for some snow.

Enjoy this incredible picture and think snow.

Old Red Barn Surrounded in Fall Colors

Andrew Norton

Hillside in October, originally uploaded by CaptPiper.

Well, despite waking up to a light dusting of snow on the leaves that were knocked off of the trees by the wind and rain yesterday I am still in a fall state of mind. I really like the red of the barn contrasted with the bright orange leaves in the background.

I guess I am just a sucker for great barn pictures, especially those in the fall with the great Michigan color display.

Our son was quite excited about the splash of white that dusted the leaves in our yard. I would rather we continue the fall weather and put winter back on the shelf until it is a bit closer to Christmas.

Little Stone Church on Mackinac Island

Andrew Norton

I took this picture a couple of years ago on a fall color tour of northern Michigan. It was pretty sad to see everyone closing up their homes for the winter. The island was very quiet and empty (which was nice) yet sad at the same time because summer was over and even though fall was in full swing everyone seemed to be leaving.

Little Stone church on Mackinac Island

If you have never been up north on Mackinac Island in the fall I highly recommend it. The colors are spectacular and when combined with the quiet ambiance of the horses clippity-clopping along empty streets it is a truly peaceful experience.

Photo of Lightning at Blue Water Bridge

Andrew Norton

Wrath of Zues, originally uploaded by Freddie jr.

Wow! I love the deep blue sky contrasted with the silver hue of the lightning. This guy takes some wonderful nighttime photos.

I looked up pictures of lightning on flickr.com in light of the storms that passed through here this week and slowed things down for a bit.

Mackinac Island Taxi Comes Out of the Fog

Andrew Norton

DSC_2483, originally uploaded by pfilias.

When my wife and I honeymooned on Mackinac Island it was shrouded in a chilly blanket of fog for a couple of the days we were there. This photo reminds me of that. I love that it is in black and white.

With the wall of fog surrounding the island it muffled the sounds of horse hooves upon the pavement and gave a surreal sense of peaceful isolation. The Mackinac Bridge and the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan were not visible. With no vehicles and no way to see the outside modern world it felt like we had slipped back in time for those few days.

It is funny how one picture can bring back so many wonderful memories.

Con Operated Laundry in White Pigeon

Andrew Norton

Con Operated Laundry, originally uploaded by All Things Michigan.

This must be where some serious money laundering takes place. I can't believe they would be so bold as to advertise themselves as a "Con Operated Laundry." Read it for yourself, it is right there on the sign. :)
