The Great Storm of November 1913

Andrew Norton

100 years ago over a span from November 7th through November 10th, the deadliest storm to ever hit the Great Lakes killed over 250 people and caused 12 major shipwrecks. The storm's 90 mph winds created 35 foot waves on the Great Lakes and the accompanying blizzard conditions gave this storm it's name - The White Hurricane.

Top Five Michigan Halloween Traditions

Andrew Norton

Here's just a short and goofy list of the Top Five Michigan Halloween Traditions. Have fun tonight and try to stay dry if you're trick-or-treating here in Michigan. Happy Halloween, Everybody!

  1. Wearing your costume under a snowsuit
  2. Handing out Better Made Chips and Sanders Chocolates to trick-or-treaters
  3. Jumping in a pile of leaves covered in snow
  4. Snow-covered jack-o-lanterns
  5. Dressing up as a Detroit Lion and getting extra "sympathy candy" for your poor choice of a favorite team

Downtown Detroit Pure Michigan TV Spot

Andrew Norton

Here is another Detroit Pure Michigan TV Spot that focuses on the downtown area this time. I take my wife and kids to downtown quite a few times a year to watch Tigers games, ride the People Mover, eat at one of the great Greektown restaurants, or watch the MHSAA football finals at Ford Field.

Send a bit of Detroit to someone with our Detroit Gift Basket!

Michigan Labor Day Weekend Links

Andrew Norton

The weather is going to be quite like mid-summer this Labor Day Weekend, which is commonly thought of as the unofficial end of summer. Other than the heat, it is shaping up to be a beautiful weekend.

The best news for those traveling in Michigan this weekend is that MDOT is suspending most road construction and lane closures beginning at 3pm on August 30 through 6am September 3rd.

Here is just a small sample of the events going on across Michigan from the U.P. on down to Detroit this weekend -

Michigan Gift Baskets That Beat The Heat

Andrew Norton

It's really cooking here in Michigan and across the Midwest now that we're into the middle of summer. I always like to write a blog post at this time of year to remind folks about what the heat will do to baskets containing chocolates when the temperatures hover above 70 degrees - they WILL melt. We offer a Insulated Shipping Box, but that needs to be paired with 1 or 2 Day shipping in order to work. The freezer packs included in the Insulated Shipping Box are only good for up to 48 hours and possibly less when it is 90 degrees or hotter.

So, what can you do if you don't want to spend $5 on an Insulated Shipping Box and an extra $40 or so for 1 - 2 Day Shipping?

Well, we have a great line of gift baskets that won't melt - no matter what the temperature.

No-Melt Michigan's Best - $115

No-Melt Staff Favorites - $77

Detroit Tigers Gift Basket - $64
