Michigan Gas Prices Week of 7/31/06

Andrew Norton

The average price of gas this morning in Michigan is $3.055. Some of the highest sustained gas prices in history are coinciding with record profits in the oil industry. Hmm, coincidence? I doubt it. One year ago we were paying $2.289 across Michigan.

Gas station owners do not see any of these record profits. Most are lucky to clear $.01 per gallon. So, don't get huffy and take your anger out on the station owners.

Michigan Gas Prices Week of 7/17/06

Andrew Norton

The average price per gallon of gas across Michigan as of today, July 17, 2006, is $2.99. The big price jump has (thankfully) not ocurred (yet). We are only about $.20 from the all-time high price for a gallon of gas in Michigan of $3.205 which was set Labor Day Weekend of last year. Last year at this time we were paying $2.36 per gallon of gas on average in Michigan.

One of these weeks, wouldn't it be great if we heard that Ford or GM was going to announce a new model that would simply sip gas and get 40 to 50 miles per gallon? Or better yet, a vehicle that did not need gasoline at all. Yeah, that would be great. Just dreaming, I guess.

Update on Gas Price Increase 7/15/06

Andrew Norton

Yesterday, I wrote about a tip I had that gas prices would increase $.30 by the end of the day. Now, it appears that the increase will be happening as the upcoming week progresses. According to this article in the Detroit Free Press, industry experts are predicting gas to go up to $3.10 next week. Even if it isn't going up $.30 this weekend or this week, it appears that if the conflicts in the Mideast continue that the price of gas will just keep climbing.

Gas Prices Will Reportedly Increase $.30 Today!

Andrew Norton

WARNING:I just heard from a reputable source through the sheriff's department that gas prices will go up approximately $.30 by the end of the day today, July 15, 2006. A quick glance at MichiganGasPrices.com shows the highest price in Michigan right now of $3.30 at a Marathon station south of Mio.

Evidently with the current state of affairs in the Mideast has bumped the price of a barrel of oil over $78. Yikes!

Michigan Gas Prices Week of 7/10/06

Andrew Norton

The current regular unleaded gas price average across Michigan is now up to $3.029 per gallon. Recently, the August futures for a barrel of light sweet crude went as high as $75.78. Analysts are predicting $80 per barrel of oil at some point in 2007. They base this on past history of a barrel of oil increasing about $10 per year. Who knows what that will do to gas prices here in Michigan? They certainly will not decrease.

One year ago at this time Michigan gas prices had crept up to $2.361.
